An experimental laboratory of design applied to furnishings, SP_Lab was established within Sice Previt in 2020, inheriting the initials of the parent company. The aim of the laboratory is to give space to the creativity developed in the company through decades of activity in the production of high-end furnishings for the international high fashion brand market.
From this constellation of experiences a new horizon of development began for Sice Previt, centred around SP_Lab, a completely autonomous design laboratory whose products are conceived, designed and manufactured entirely in the company.
Inspiring the first line of products, which intends to trace the furrow for all the collections yet to come, are the Milanese masters of 1950s design and, more generally, the lesson of modernism, which showed the timeless elegance of essential forms conceived as indissolubly linked to the function of each piece of furniture. Thus SP_Lab searches in its creations for clean, modern lines that enhance raw materials of the highest quality, from marble to fine wood essences, but also materials typical of contemporary aesthetics such as glass and steel.
The apparent simplicity of SP_Lab furniture conceals a complex production process, where the combination of craftsmanship savoir faire and creative impetus is combined with a true engineering study of structures and workmanship, particularly with regard to heavy or fragile materials and large furnishings. An engineering in which the scientific and experimental soul of Sice Previt, which has always been interested in the application of the most innovative technologies and in the encounter between engineering and art, finds its place.
The design of the first furniture line launched within the framework of SP_Lab gave life to the design that characterises the SP_ZERO series, recognisable in the long, geometric lines and tapered shapes that describe the volumes of its furniture.
Inaugurated in 2023 as part of the Building Innovation exhibition organised by Sice Previt for the Fuorisalone, the SP_ZERO series now encompasses six tables of different widths and a free-standing modular bookcase, equipped with adjustable uprights, shelves and cabinets to be placed as desired.
A rich range of woods, metals and marbles – from Calacatta Arabescato to Calacatta Orobico, from Carnico peach blossom to Lepanto red marble – extends the sample book of finishes of the line’s furnishings, making each piece almost unique. Multiple colours thus dress the elementary shapes of circles, squares and prisms, chromatically defining their volumes.
GIANT, TABLE and ROUND were created to give shape to the conviviality and hospitality typical of get-togethers, providing a special emotion. They create a welcoming space that invites you to sit comfortably at a table for twelve to twenty-four people. From the SP_ZERO series, they inherit the characteristic simple and elegant lines, the tapering of the crosspiece and legs, and the set-back position of the support points.
COMMA, DOT, SQUARE make up an initial nucleus of small tables and coffee tables that stand out for their broad versatility, offering not only a practical support for holding and arranging objects, but also mobile and light elements suitable for adorning and decorating spaces, creating familiar, intimate and enveloping atmospheres.
MAST completes the range of new furniture developed for the Fuori Salone 2024 exhibition: an open and bright bookcase combines functionality and aesthetics, and integrates an adjustable lighting system inside. The furniture lends itself to being freely mounted in any environment without the need to be anchored to the wall, while its modular structure leaves the possibility of playing with the compositions and customising the configuration. Made of solid wood and suitable for diffusing natural light in rooms, MAST brings a touch of modernity and elegance to any room.
