An experimental laboratory of design applied to furnishings, SP_Lab was established within Sice Previt in 2020, inheriting the initials of the parent company. Its primary objective is to give space to the creativity developed within the company over several decades of activity in the production of high-end furnishings for the international high fashion brand market. From this constellation of experiences Sp__Lab has emerged as a new development direction for the company, being a laboratory where products are conceived, designed and manufactured entirely in-house.
The first line of products – which intends to trace the furrow for all the collections yet to come – is inspired by the Milanese masters of design of the 1950s and, more generally, by the lesson of modernism, which showed the timeless elegance of essential forms seamlessly integrated with their functional purpose.
SP__Lab thus seeks to endow its products with clean, modern lines that enhance raw materials of the highest quality, from marble to fine wood essences, as well as materials typical of contemporary aesthetics such as glass and steel.
The apparent simplicity of SP_Lab furniture conceals a complex production process, where craftsmanship and creativity combine with a thorough engineering study of structures and workings, particularly with regard to heavy or fragile materials and large furnishings.
Such a process embodies the scientific and experimental spirit of Sice Previt, which has always been interested in the application of the most innovative technologies and in the encounter between engineering and art.
The unmistakable design of the SP_ZERO series, the first product line launched within the framework of SP__Lab, is characterised by the long, geometric lines and tapered contours that describe the volumes of its furniture.
Inaugurated in 2023 as part of the Building Innovation exhibition organised by Sice Previt for the Fuorisalone, the SP_ZERO series now encompasses six tables of different widths and a free-standing modular bookcase, equipped with adjustable uprights, shelves and cabinets to be placed as desired.
A rich range of woods, metals and marbles – such as Calacatta Arabescato, Calacatta Orobico, Carnico peach blossom, Lepanto red marble – considerably extends the sample book of finishes used for SP__ZERO furniture, making each piece almost unique. Multiple colours dress the elementary shapes of circles, squares and prisms, chromatically defining their volumes.
GIANT, TABLE and ROUND were designed as to give shape to the conviviality and hospitality typical of get-togethers, infusing them with a special emotion. They create a welcoming space that provides comfortable seating for groups of between twelve and twenty-four people. From the SP_ZERO series, these tables inherit the characteristic simple and elegant lines, the tapering of the crosspiece and legs, and the set-back position of the support points.
COMMA, DOT, SQUARE form an initial nucleus of small tables and coffee tables that stands out for its broad versatility. These tables do not only offer a practical support for holding and arranging objects, but also represent mobile and light elements suitable for adorning spaces creating familiar, intimate and enveloping atmospheres.
MAST completes the range of new SP_ZERO furniture developed for the 2024 exhibition. This open and bright bookcase, integrating an adjustable lighting system, combines functionality and aesthetics. Its design allows it to be easily assembled in any environment with no need for wall anchoring, while its modular structure also enables to play with the composition of cabinets and shelves, customising the configuration of the bookcase. Made of solid wood and suitable for shaping the space while also diffusing natural light, MAST brings a touch of modernity and elegance to any room.
